Rabbi Steve Karro Scholarship for the Arts Announces Award for Aspiring Undergraduate Artists Across the United States

One-time award supports students pursuing visual arts, music, theater, dance, film, design, creative writing, and other artistic disciplines

MIAMI BEACH, Fla., Oct. 07, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The Steve Karro Scholarship for the Arts, founded by businessman and arts advocate Rabbi Steve Karro, has announced the launch of its one-time $1,000 scholarship for undergraduate students pursuing higher education in the arts. Applications are now open, with the winner scheduled to be announced on July 15, 2027. The scholarship is available to eligible students across the United States and is not restricted to a particular city or state.

The scholarship reflects Rabbi Steve Karro's longstanding interest in supporting arts education and encouraging the next generation of creative professionals. The initiative is designed to help address some of the financial challenges associated with pursuing an education in the arts, including tuition, educational materials, equipment, studio expenses, and other academic costs.

“This scholarship exists to send one clear message to young artists: their work matters, and their future in the arts deserves support,” said Rabbi Steve Karro, founder of the scholarship. “Talent should never be cut short because of a funding gap.”

Who Can Apply

The Steve Karro Scholarship for the Arts, established by Rabbi Steve Karro, is open to undergraduate students who meet the following eligibility requirements:

  • High school seniors, undergraduates, or art school students
  • Enrollment or acceptance at an accredited U.S. college, university, or arts program
  • Pursuit of a degree or certificate in an artistic field, including visual arts, music, theater, dance, film, design, creative writing, or artistic and cultural traditions such as ancient Hebrew calligraphy
  • Students pursuing or developing skills as future scribes in ancient Hebrew calligraphy
  • A minimum GPA of 2.5
  • U.S. citizenship or permanent residency

The scholarship is intended for students who demonstrate a meaningful interest in the arts and have a clear vision for how their creative work, artistic practice, or preservation of traditional forms such as ancient Hebrew calligraphy and scribal arts may contribute to their communities and the broader world.

Selection Process and Key Dates

Applications will be evaluated through an essay-based contest. Applicants must submit a 500–800 word essay responding to the prompt:

“How will your art change the world — and what stands in your way?”

Submissions will be reviewed based on passion, clarity, originality, and creative vision. Rabbi Steve Karro personally reviews the essays submitted as part of the scholarship selection process.

Important dates for the 2027 award cycle include:

  • Application deadline: June 15, 2027
  • Winner announcement: July 15, 2027

Students may apply by emailing their essay, along with their full name, school, program of study, and expected graduation year, to apply@stevekarroscholarship.com with the subject line “Steve Karro Scholarship Application.”

A Timely Investment in the Next Generation

The scholarship arrives at a time when students pursuing creative disciplines continue to navigate the financial demands of higher education. By directing financial support toward undergraduate artists, the Steve Karro Scholarship for the Arts seeks to help students continue their education and develop their creative skills.

For Rabbi Steve Karro, supporting emerging artists represents an extension of a broader interest in arts education and creative development. His involvement with the scholarship reflects a commitment to recognizing students who demonstrate dedication to their chosen artistic disciplines.

The Rabbi Steve Karro Scholarship provides an opportunity for students to communicate their creative ambitions while considering the challenges that can stand between them and their educational goals. Through the essay requirement, applicants are encouraged to think critically about both their artistic aspirations and the potential impact of their work.

Applications close on June 15, 2027. Students interested in the opportunity are encouraged to submit their applications before the deadline. Educators, counselors, arts organizations, and community groups may also share the scholarship opportunity with qualifying students.
